Bear Lake

A week-end trip to Bear Lake with Grammy Vicki and Pop-Pop is a cure for anything. It was going to be great. To start off, we lent our neighbors the portable DVD player, but Bear Lake is only a 2 hr ride and we thought our kids could entertain themselves for that short of time. Well, Abby did great as you can tell in the 1st picture, but Davis on the other hand missed his DVD player or at least Mom and Dad missed it. Davis was still wide-awake at 9:30p.m. when we pulled up to the cabin.

This is the story of our lives. This boy refuses to sleep in the car.

The kids are passing the time in the sand box waiting("100 hundred hours." says Abby) to get on the boat.

Like father like son. While we were on the dock, Davis loved putting his feet in the ski boots and playing with the rope handles just like dad did.

Pioneer Day

Since Preston and I both had the day off, we decided to take advantage to it. We started out with the Pioneer Day Parade. Early that morning we went to Liberty Park to watch the floats, bands, and horses come in. OH MY GOSH!! can you say HOT!!! It was just blazing!! Before the parade was even over we had to go find the splash park area and let the kids get wet and cool down. Next, we headed over to Tracey Avery to see a free bird show (it was kind of lame). We had a great time as a family. Hopefully we can make this a yearly tradition!!

Here we are at the Days of '47 Rodeo. A rodeo that goes from Mon-Thurs of the week of July 24th. Davis is a wee bit scared of the sounds cows make, so do I need to mention that not a muscle was moved by him during the bull riding.

We got the kids this little pool to have in the yard so I can get some dishes done. It's a bit small for Abby to have much fun, but Davis sure loves it.

"Ponderosa On The Beach"

Every 3 years Kayce's family has a reunion and this year it happened to be in Orange Beach, AL. The theme came from Kayce's Grandpa Cochran. Right around when the show Bonanza first came out, he started referring to the farm as his ponderosa. Just a tidbit of info for those of you that didn't know. Anyway, our reunions are usually a 3-4 day event full of activities, eating, relays, golfing, eating, dancing, eating, and a talent show. Yep, I did say dancing. Since they're all from the south (not St George south, Mississippi south) it's acceptable to dance with your kin-folk. Even though it sounds weird it is weird, once you get over the fact that you're all related and the music starts it's pretty fun. This year we were fewer in numbers than we've had in the past. Only around 100 of the Arvil and Gertrude Cochran clan were able to attend this year. Thanks to all of those who participated and made it a wonderful and memorable good 'ol southern time for my family.

Now I'll get on with the fun pictures and such. I hope ya'll can just capture an inkling of the great time that we had through these pictures. We're ecstatic to share this part of our lives with each of you.

Here's how the trip starts.........

On our way to the airport @ 5:30 a.m. to drop off Kayce and Abby for a standby flight.

They made their flight and just trying to past the time until they get to New Orleans, LA

Davis, Preston, and Gamma arrive in N.O. and now a 2 hr. car ride to Aunt Keli's in Alabama @ 10:30 p.m.

The Ponderosa Dinner Theater

This year the Mitzi Davis family was in charge of the talent show. We decided to do something a bit different and try a dinner theater. We had sloppy Roast Beef Po-Boys with all the trimmings. What a fun sloppy southern way to start the evening. After dessert, Kyle (kayce's oldest brother) and Kayce MC'd the rest of the Program. It was full of comedy, cheering, singing, Hee-Haw, and lot of laughing. Here are some snap shots to enjoy.

Years ago an old man who had a vineyard, and little Ozzie and Arvil asked for some grapes to eat. The old man replied, "If you sing me a song." So, as one of the MCs, Kayce, of course, had some grapes on hand to bribe these two for their rendition of "Little Purple Pansies".

Remember, I said that there was dancing......This is a traditional southern Grand March, which officially opens the dance and breaks the ice for everyone (all ages) to get on the floor. This was Grandma Cochran's favorite dance because everyone could participate. She would stand at the front of the hall and direct the march. What a great tribute to her for the Grand March to still be enjoyed by four generations down.

Not too bad, right? It actually looks pretty fun, HUH!!!

PEANUT BUTTER ANYONE????????

The kids had a great time on the beach and pretty much just that....the beach. The water was infested with hundreds of jelly fish. They were the worst in over 10 years for the Alabama beaches. Everyone was stung but Abby-even little Davis. The trick was to spray vinegar on the area immediately and it takes away the sting. According to Preston, there may be some areas that are more tender than others, and the vinegar trick doesn't work as well.

Bless little cousin Cassidy's heart. She turned 8 in April and decided to wait 2 months to be able to be baptized so her grandma and cousins could attend. Then Aunt K-K had a great idea (at the time) for her to do it in the ocean. YEAAAAAA!! Sounds pretty special, HUH?

This is one of our favorite places to eat while visiting the south. A place where the rolls are HOT and throwed!!

This fella in the center of the pic here is a future pro roll thrower!! He comes around to the tables, and if you're ready for another roll, you hold up your hands and hope you catch it!! But, if by chance you don't, he'll just keep throwing until you do.

After the beach, the fun continues............... .

On our way back to Aunt Keli's we decided to take the ferry. The kids loved being able to drive the cars on to the boat and watching the sea life and birds during the ride. Preston was able to capture some awesome shots.....

Cousin Karson and Davis helped Uncle Chris mow the yard. Davis only thought it was gonna be fun. Karson was just grateful he didn't need a license.

Here's a few pics at a place called Blue Rabbit in AL. It's a great place for the kids to just run around, and the parents can watch; and best of all, it's inside with air conditioning. There is a working train that Davis couldn't stay off of, lots of climbing ropes, tunnels, arcades, etc.

Everyone needs at least one Emergency Room visit on their vacation!! On Sunday morning, Preston and Davis are horsing around, and Preston hears Davis' wrist POP!! Davis just cries and cries, holding his arm close to him. After about an hour, we decided we might better go and have it checked out. We splinted it just in case, gave him some meds, and headed to the hospital.

Davis is so sad and would only let mom hold him, and he is very careful with his arm. The nurse calls us back to take an assessment. We explain the story, as she takes off the great splint mom made out of plastic forks, thank you. There was some swelling and tenderness. At this point, Preston is feeling like the worst dad ever. Poor guy!! The nurse sends us back out to the waiting room to wait for the doctor. Preston and I sit as Davis decides he wants down to walk around and talk to the locals. We are watching him play around on the chairs using that arm like nothing ever happened!! Yep, He got us! So we went back to Aunt Keli's without seeing the doc.

We wanted to go see some of the areas hit by Katrina in New Orleans. Kevin (Kayce's youngest brother) and Tracey (who is from N.O.) took us on a tour of some of the hardest hit places.

This is in 9th Ward, looking straight at the front steps of what used to be a home. In the back ground you can see exactly where the levy broke.

I know, I know....I can't believe it either. here we are, posting again. For those of you that still happen to frequent this page to see if we have updated it....we say thank you for your continued perseverance. There have been some recent events in our lives worth posting about, so i figured I would post some pictures and blog for a brief moment. This past Memorial Day, we took the kids and had some great family time at the Dinosaur museum. Gamma went with us and was the lucky one to be able to chase Davis around the joint and all but pulling the bones down. Thanks gamma for being such a good helper. Abby was also a good big sister and was happy to show Davis the cool bones and such. Cousin Mike was hanging out with us over the weekend and he even took his turn chasing Davis too!

We had a blast having Mike stay with us and needless to say, well the museum was glad to see us go.

On another note, we had a special visitor all the way from Australia. We has Sister Quail, a Sister in my mission, and her cute kids visit us. They brought us some fun treats that I miss from Australia that included Tim Tams and Top Deck chocolate bars. She also brought the kids some cute t-shirts that they wear every day! Special thanks to Mom and Bob for being gracious hosts and preparing a great meal! Here are some fun pictures we took while she was here.

BROKEN COMPUTER!!

I promise that I am not ignoring the blog on purpose. Our computers power supply went out in our computer which in turn then fried our hard drive. The Computer Geek at the store told me that in order to fix it we would need an entirely new computer. RIGHT!! Well my good friend and Brother of the Belt has told me that he is giving me his gently used computer after giving his wife a new one for her birthday. THANKS CHARLES AND MINDY!! As soon as we get our "NEW/gently used" computer up and running, we will be back on the Blogging Band Wagon! New posts to come when that happens! Love to All!!

The Pumpkin Carve

It's that time of year again....to cut the tops off pumpkins and dig out their insides. There is nothing like getting pumpkin seeds all over your carpet! Ahhh the sweet traditions we keep alive! Abby is very proud of her baby pumpkin that she carved all by her self. As you can tell from the pictures, Kayce as always went for the more challenging design...If you can't tell or do not have young kids, that is Sponge Bob carved into the pumpkin. Abby was very excited about that. As for me well, I just had fun watching the girls get into their pumpkins so I went with the standard Jack-O'Lantern. As for Davis, he was more interested in eating the stuff inside the pumpkins and pushing the chairs over.

KK's B-Day

We all had a fun day with KK celebrating her birthday. We went to CPK (California Pizza Kitchen) with Grammy Vicki and had a yummy lunch. The rest of the day was business as usual until that evening when the kids and I took Kayce to dinner at Fuddruckers. Gamma Mitzi was able to join us and it was fun to have her along too! Other than the cold rainy day it had been, it was fun to share this special day with Kayce.

Although Davis enjoyed his cupcake at the birthday party, time was short and we felt that we deprived him of one of life's great experiences. So, we frosted another cupcake and let him dive into another one. This was the "Kodak Moment" that we were wanting.....

It is becoming clear that I may never keep up with this blog. I am working some long hours and it is very hard to keep this thing going. Having said that our little boy turned ONE this past week. Trying to schedule his party around my work schedule was a slight bump in the road, however, Davis made it clear to us that he would clear his schedule for this party any day we could have it. We had a little family gathering at the Pizza Factory on Saturday afternoon. As you can see from the pictures below, Kayce and Mitzi worked very hard on the birthday cake for Davis. Other family members worked very hard on the fun presents that Davis got to open. The hit of the afternoon was the Lawn Mower that Grammy and Pop-Pop gave him. He mowed the entire restaurant.

Davis' favorite part of the afternoon was getting to try his cake. This is the first time he has had sugar and he loved every bite of that butter cream icing.

The best part of our visit to the Curtis house was bath time. Abby and Davis had a great time bathing with their cousins. They all wanted to put their hair in Mohawks, and it only got more elaborate from there.

This past week we had the opportunity to spend some time with the Curtis clan while Randy and Heather gallivanted around New York City. (Hence the reason we have not posted for a week or so.) We did however do our best to have some fun while they were gone! One of our events was bowling at Fat Cats. Here are some pictures of us at the Bowling Alley. As you can see Mitch was getting some expert advice on exactly how you play the game! Davis was far more concerned about guarding every ones shoes and playing the big video games.

Labor Day

Well, Labor Day found us in pretty good spirits. I for one had a day off.
My first day off in quite a while. The morning started out as you can
see to the right. Davis found himself a new play place, and was very proud of it I might add. Davis is also very proud of his new teeth.

We have been promising for some time now that we would take Abby to ride Smokey( the horse that we went riding on in Island Park last year) This summer has proven very difficult to take a family vacation so that was not in the cards. A good friend of my moms has some horses in Roy, UT and invited us up to ride that afternoon. I am attaching some pictures of Abby who was not on this planet but some where in heaven that evening. This horse is called Sparky. I am sure we will be praying for him too.

And here is a picture of Abby and her friend Peyton embarking on their new business. They had their first lemmonaide stand and it was very successfull. Abby brought home $7.50. It is burning a hole in her pocket and she can't wait to go to the dollar store to get something with her money.

Here we are!! A new post! I know that you all can not believe it. Charles, it is no longer just Kayce and Abby on the dock. Enjoy this post because there may not be another one for a while. There has been quite a bit that has been going on in the Rasmussen household the last few months. Davis is now up and walking, has 4 teeth and two more coming in. Abby is now back in preschool and loving every second. Kayce is being a great mother keeping this house together and somehow keeping herself together too. As for me, I have started a new job. I have completed my mortgage exam for the state of Utah and will be a mortgage officer completing new loans. I am attaching some pictures of the kids that we took on the 4Th of July and will post some more when I get them downloaded off the camera.
